Best IPTV Player for Greece in 2026: IBO vs HOT vs Virginia
A practical 2026 comparison of IBO Player, HOT Player, and Virginia Player for Greece, covering Greek EPG, Cosmote Fiber, and Super League viewing.
IPTV Society EditorialGreece has a passionate IPTV community with strong demand for local Greek channels and international sports content. Greek IPTV is particularly popular for live football and news.
This page is the Greece entry point. The long read is the IPTV in Greece 2026 guide. If the playlist already plays and you only need to pick the living-room app, start with the IBO vs HOT vs Virginia comparison for Cosmote, Nova, and Vodafone TVs. Use this hub to pick the app on the main TV, check what your home line actually changes, and find the EPG matching notes without opening every article first. Greekstar's 2026 living-room ISP and IBO note is the sister write-up for Cosmote, Nova, Cyta-class lines, and a holiday-flat hop.
Most Greek living rooms need one player the whole house can use. That is still IBO Player. It is the same default as the Cyprus guide for a mixed apartment: Android TV or a Fire Stick on the main set, a Samsung or LG in the bedroom, and a phone in the kitchen. Greek titles have to stay readable in the ERT list. IBO Player does that without a second app for the kitchen screen.
HOT Player stays Android-first. It is the better pick when the playlist has a real Greek VOD library and you want posters instead of a long channel list. Fine on a Fire Stick or a phone. It is a weak only-app if the lounge TV is a Samsung or LG. Install IBO Player there, then add HOT Player only if you already know you want that home screen.
Virginia Player is the light Android client. Use it when the box is an older Amlogic set with tight RAM, or when the person holding the remote wants the fewest menus. It is a weak only-app if the lounge TV has no Android layer. Install IBO Player on that screen, then keep Virginia Player on the cheap box you already intend to leave in a second room or a summer house.

Fibre from Cosmote, Nova, and Vodafone Greece is why HD IPTV is ordinary in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, and Heraklion. The player does not fix a congested stairwell switch or a blocked port. Ethernet to the box still beats a larger buffer.
Cosmote. Leave the buffer where the player put it on Cosmote Fiber. Channel changes should feel instant. Startup delays are usually DNS. Cosmote's resolver can be slow on streaming CDN hostnames. Set Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 or Google 8.8.8.8, then retry. If login fails on a line that otherwise works, stop using port 8080. The Greece guide already flags that Cosmote can filter it. Ask the provider for 80, 443, or 25461. Cosmote VDSL2 is a different story. 1080p is fine. 4K is not a promise, and evening load on those copper lines is why people start raising the buffer.
Nova (Wind Hellas). Nova fibre behaves like Cosmote Fiber for this purpose. Wind DSL does not. Peak-hour congestion shows up as evening freezes, not as a polite error. Raise the buffer and wire the box before you blame the playlist. Some Wind and Nova residential accounts use CGNAT. If authentication times out on a known-good credential, that is a line problem. Ask Nova whether they can assign a dedicated IP. The Greece guide has the longer ISP notes if you need them.
Vodafone Greece. Home broadband follows the same DNS and buffer advice as Nova. Mobile 4G or 5G in Athens and Thessaloniki can hold 1080p when the signal is strong. Indoor 5G is variable. A holiday flat on island Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot is the other case. 1080p can wait. A larger buffer and Ethernet, if you have it, are the honest settings. Do not use a hotspot as the main TV connection.
Do not start with a 10,000-row Europe dump. Pin ERT1, ANT1, MEGA, and Alpha. If those four play, the subscription is usable. Skai, Open, the regional rows, and Cosmote Sport or Nova Sports can wait. The Greece guide is the place for that channel map, including the ERTSports and Super League cases a player cannot invent.
Greek public XMLTV IDs already live in that guide. Common tokens are
ert1.gr, ert2.gr, and ant1.gr.
This hub will not repeat the table. If ERT1 shows last night's film
after a "successful" refresh, the file loaded and the row is bound to
the wrong id. That is a matching problem.
The XMLTV ID hub walks through how IBO Player, MAT Player, and Duplex TV attach an id to a row. The public stacks there are SRF, ERT, VRT, and SVT. ERT is the one that belongs in a Greek house. The bind is the same work on ANT1. Search the XML for the id, not the pretty name. Auto-match still grabs "ERT1 HD" and leaves the row you watch empty. If the whole grid is blank, you do not have an ID problem yet. Fix the URL and the refresh first. The EPG setup guide covers that step.
Set the player to UTF-8 before you decide Greek titles are broken. Boxes on Ειδήσεις, or missing accented letters in ΑΝΤ1 titles, are encoding, not a bad playlist. Cosmote Sport rows that stay empty after a refresh are often missing from the community file. Ask the provider whether their XMLTV includes those sports channels before you add a second source.
The Greece guide has the full channel map, Cosmote port notes, and the ERT XMLTV ID list. The player comparison is the shorter living-room pick between IBO Player, HOT Player, and Virginia Player. The Cyprus guide is the neighbour when the house also wants RIK. Greekstar's living-room note is the sister Cosmote, Nova, and holiday-flat read.
Start with IBO Player. It covers Samsung and LG in the lounge, Android TV or Fire TV in a second room, and a phone in the kitchen. HOT Player is the Android VOD pick. Virginia Player is the light client for an older low-RAM Android box. Do not install all three on the same TV.
On Cosmote Fiber, leave the buffer alone and try another DNS if startup is slow. Cosmote can filter port 8080, so ask for 80, 443, or 25461. Nova fibre behaves like Cosmote fibre; Wind DSL and evening load do not. Some Wind and Nova accounts use CGNAT. A holiday flat on island Wi-Fi is not the main TV connection.
Pin ERT1, ANT1, MEGA, and Alpha. If those four play, the subscription is usable. Skai, Open, and Cosmote Sport or Nova Sports can wait. The Greece guide has the channel map and the ERT XMLTV tokens this hub does not repeat.
This hub and the Greece guide stay on Cosmote, Nova, Vodafone, ERT matching, and the apps we document. Greekstar’s 2026 living-room ISP and IBO note is the sister write-up for Cosmote, Nova, Cyta-class lines, and a holiday-flat hop.
